A new club for enigmatic former Peterborough United star

Enigmatic former Peterborough United player Joel Randall has signed for League Two side Chesterfield.

Randall was a star man in the last great Posh team, the 2023-24 side that lost in the League One play-off semi-finals to Oxford United.

But for two seasons before that he had been a mere peripheral presence. Not what you’d want for a player who moved from Exeter City to London Road for £1 million.

Randall lost is way again the following season and was sold to Bolton Wanderers for a seven-figure fee in January 2025, but he made little impact with ‘The Trotters’ or after a loan move to Blackpool. Randall made 109 appearances for Posh, scoring 19 goals.

The 26 year-old has now joined Chesterfield on a season long loan deal from Bolton. The deal was completed before last night’s 11pm deadline for transfers.
