Peterborough Sports stretch unbeaten run to 10 games, but manager was still frustrated, plus the midweek non league fixtures

Peterborough Sports made it 10 Southern Premier Division Central games unbeaten on Saturday, but Mark Ducket was a frustrated manager after a 1-1 draw at Stratford Town.

The city side dominated most of the contest, but missed the clinical finishing power of injured top scorer Leon Lobjoit. Sports still managed to get in front through midfielder Michael Richens in the first-half, but the hosts equalised against the run of play before the break before keeping the visitors at bay in a stop-start second half,

Sports dropped a place to fifth as a result and don’t play again until hosting Leiston at PIMS Park on Tuesday, October 27.

“I’m very frustrated,” Ducket told Peterborough Community Radio after the game. “There was only one team ever likely to win this game and yet we didn’t manage it.

"We scored an excellent goal after one of those passages of play we’d worked on, but we took our foot off the gas instead going again to get a second goal.

"If you give any team a sniff at this level you will be punished and we were by conceding a really poor goal.

"We had completely dominated the game up to that point. We had lots of possession, but although we didn’t create a lot of chances, we had to take the ones we did create so we missed Leon.

"They set out in the second-half to disrupt the game and they set up in a 5-5-0 formation. As a result we became over anxious and over excited when we had the ball.

"We became frustrated, but we should take it as a compliment that teams want to play like that against us.”

Sports handed Sydney Ibie his debut after just one training session with his new teammates and he impressed. Goalscorer Richens was sent off late in the game after picking up a second yellow card.

Ducket is in the market for further signings, but players might have to leave Sports first.
