Murder trial shown CCTV of Peterborough 16-year-old collapsing after suffering fatal stab wound

A court has been shown CCTV footage of a 16-year-old collapsing to his death following a fatal stab wound in Peterborough.

The jury at Peterborough Crown Court were shown footage of Baye Bireme Fall being stabbed and collapsing moments after trying to talk away from the incident in the car park next to St John’s Church School in Orton Goldhay on April 12.

On Friday, the trial of Emidas Krutkevicuis and a 15-year-old boy who can not be named for legal reasons began; both deny the murder of Baye Bireme Fall.

Baye was killed by a 12cm deep single stab wound to his lower back. The court heard that the knife was driven in so deeply at an upward motion that it made contact with his lung, diaphragm, stomach, liver as well as the left and right ventricles of his heart.

The court was told that a kitchen knife measuring 20cm x 1.2cm was later found in the loft of the 15-year-old’s house. Forensic analysis found on the blood-stained knife significant traces of Baye and the young boy’s DNA on it.

The court heard that Krutkevicuis and the other defendant initially met up with Baye and two of his friends at the Ortongate Shopping Centre at just after 6:30pm.

The jury was told that both Krutkevicuis and the boy arrived with knives, as too did the victim. Witnesses described seeing a sheathed samurai sword tucked into the belt of the victim but it was never seen unsheathed. Prosecutor Kate Wilkinson told the court that forensics show that the weapon itself was never seen outside of its protective case and there were no forensic sign it had ever been used to hurt anyone.

The court heard earlier in the day that Baye and Krutkevicuis had set up a meeting via Snapchat to resolve a disagreement between two friends of theirs.

Baye arrived with two others, one 14-year-old and one 15-year-old, to meet with Krutkevicuis and the young defendant. A group of girls who were nearby at the time, described Krutkevicuis and the young defendant as looking ‘suspicious’ due to their clothing. They went onto describe the conversation between the two groups as ‘hostile.’

After a brief conversation, the group all left the shopping centre and entered an alleyway in Riseholme; the meeting in the alleyway was not captured on CCTV.

The court was told that at this point, Krutkevicuis brandished a knife. CCTV shown to the court shows that Baye’s two friends ran away at this moment but the boy ran towards the alleyway.

Shortly afterwards, Krutkevicuis and the boy were then seen on CCTV running away along Misterton and into the car park. The two defendants arrived first and then waited for Baye to catch up.

The court was shown CCTV footage of the incident itself, in which it is not clear which of the two defendants inflicted the stab wound.

At the point the footage was shown, Baye’s family were visibly upset and had to leave the courtroom.

The prosecution contends that the two acted together in a joint enterprise. The court was told that witnesses saw both defendants carrying knives while running towards the car park.

Prosecutor Kate Wilkinson said: “At the point they run into the car park, there was nothing stopping from carrying on running away. They chose to stop and confront Baye, they waited for it to be two against one.

"The crown contends that this was a joint enterprise. Both knew the other was armed. Each was prepared to use their knives and knew the other was prepared to as well. Both stopped to confront Baye and both have since tailored their accounts to avoid responsibility.”

Baye initially walked away from the confrontation but quickly began to stumble. Less than a minute later, at 6:51pm, he collapsed to the ground and was attended to by a witness. The witness phoned 999. The emergency services arrived and carried out ‘extensive’ emergency treatment before Baye was transported to hospital. Baye was later pronounced dead at 9:27pm.

The court heard that at 6:51pm, Krutkevicuis and the boy were seen walking away from the scene smiling and shaking hands.

Both Krutkevicuis and the boy deny murder. The trial continues.
