FC Peterborough come from behind to claim first win, high five for Netherton United, Sports hit back to draw, Spalding christen new shirts with friendly win
FC Peterborough twice came from behind to claim the first United Counties Premier Division South win in the club’s history.
The city side travelled to Rugby Town after opening their season with two home defeats and fell 1-0 and 2-1 behind before recovering to win 3-2 with two goals from Aziz Mhamdi and another from Vitor Vaz. Vaz sealed the win from the penalty spot 12 minutes from time.

Yaxley were also involved in a high-scoring game, but they lost theirs, 4-3 at home to Coventry Sphinx. The visitors scored twice in the opening 20 minutes before taking a 3-1 lead into the interval. It was 4-1 early in the second-half before ‘The Cuckoos’ rallied through Isaac Kyereme and Kyle Hibbins. Brandon Jessop had scored for Yaxley before the break.
There were heavy Premier Division North defeats for Blackstones (1-4 at home to Eastwood CFC) and Deeping Rangers (0-3 at leaders Clay Cross Town). Deeping have lost their first three matches and sit bottom of the table. Yaxley have lost their opening two games.

Elsewhere the long haul to Ipswich was worth it for Netherton United who triumphed 5-1 at Hadleigh United in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League. Kyial West (2), Taylor Hunter, Kyle Gray and Mitch Pillin scored for the city side in their first away game at step 6 level.
Netherton, who are fourth, have started best of all the local clubs in this division. Holbeach United and FC Parson Drove conceded five goals apiece in matches on the road, one fewer than Whittlesey Athletic who were crushed at Halesowen Town.
March Town are still riding high at the top of the Premier Division after a single goal from Charlie Bowen at Brantham Athletic secured a third straight win. Wisbech Town recorded a third straight defeat, a 2-0 loss at home to Thetford Town.
Peterborough Sports fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in a friendly with higher level Harborough Town in front of 222 fans at PIMS Park courtesy of goals from Leon Lobjoit and Ben Beresford. Former Posh record signing Britt Assombalonga came on as a half-time substitute for the visitors.
Tosin Olopade scored the only goal as Spalding United won at Chelmsford City
Spalding have launched new home and away kits for the 2026-27 season, their first as a National League North club. The club has a new main shirt sponsor in drainage experts DALROD.
Spalding visit Radcliffe for their opening league game next Saturday (August 8). Sports open their Southern Premier Division Central campaign at Racing Club Warwick on the same day.
