Netherton United and Spalding United are in Women’s FA Cup action on Sunday.
The city side host Derby-based Pride Park at the Grange, while Spalding entertain Belper Town (2pm kick offs) in preliminary round ties.
Both local clubs will play at East Midlands Division One South level this season. Dean Steward will manage Spalding this season after leaving Netherton in the summer.
In men’s football Peterborough League Premier Division title favourites Crowland Town kicked off a new season with a 3-0 win at home to Whittlesey Athletic Reserves last weekend. The goals for a Crowland team now managed by journeymen players Dan Fountain and George Edwards were scored by Matthew Cox, Archie Rickards and Harry Tidswell.
There are two top-flight fixtures this Saturday (2pm kick offs) as Eye Rangers host newly-promoted Youth Dreams Project and Whaplode Drove Rovers are at home to Stamford AFC Reserves, who have also come up from Division One.
