Double figures for Luca, but Peterborough Sports slip closer to the relegation zone after disappointing home
A tenth goal of the season fromm Luca Miller couldn’t save Peterborough Sports from a disappointing National League North home defeat at the hands of Spennymoor Town.
Sports went down 3-1 to make it four games without a win. They are now just a place and two points clear of the drop zone ahead of a game at fourth-placed Radcliffe next Saturday (February 21).

Both goalkeepers were called into action early on as Spennymoor’s Tom Broadbent headed a corner straight at Peter Crook before Mustapha Carayol forced visiting number one Bradley James into a fine save from his curling effort towards the near post.
The deadlock was broken midway through the first half as Robert Ramshaw pounced on a defensive mistake on the half-way line, before cutting the ball across to Glen Taylor who slammed his effort into the top left corner.
Spennymoor came close to doubling their lead minutes later as Junior Mondal’s close-range effort was cleared off the line by Sports centre-back Kevin Joshua.
The game was then halted briefly because of a medical emergency in the crowd.
Taylor claimed his second goal of the match minutes after the re-start, calmly slotting into the bottom left corner after a lay-off from Mitch Hancox.
Phil Brown’s side responded well with James collecting Carayol’s cross to deny Shaq Coulthirst a tap-in before substitute Maliq Cadogan saw his volley blocked by teammate Shaun Jeffers.
‘The Turbines’ reduced the deficit on 67 minutes as Mustapha Carayol squared the ball to Miller who fired low past James for his 10th goal of the season.
The hosts had the opportunity to level as substitute Shaun Jeffers headed into the side netting following a good delivery from Marcel Oakley.
But Spennymoor secured the points late on as Crook failed to catch the ball on the edge of the box allowing Junior Mondal to slot into an empty net.
Substitute Frank Nouble came close to adding a fourth in stoppage time as he rounded Crook, but his effort was cleared off the line by Aaron Powell.
