Peterborough United teenager working hard to reclaim his first-team place, plus an international update

Peterborough United teenager Pat Sykut has his head down and is working hard to regain his first team place.

It’s a surprise to many Posh fans that the 18 year-old hasn’t made a first-team appearance in a struggling side this season. Sykut enjoyed something of a breakout season 2025-26 by making nine League One appearances, albeit eight of them from the substitutes’ bench. He scored on his full debut in a 3-3 draw with Exeter City at the Weston Homes Stadium.

Sykut was speaking on the Posh Plus service in general terms about his football journey, but touched on the frustrations of the current campaign which has seen him restricted to under 21 football.

Sykut said: “It has been difficult, not being in and around the first team this season, but I’ve kept working hard and making sure my standards remain the same.

"My mindset is getting better every day. My attitude has stayed positive and i will carry on and wait for when an opportunity arises. I want to play in the first team and I still have the drive and hunger to get back there.”

Sykut, who scored four goals in three Posh under 21 matches earlier this season, is currently in Spain with Ukraine Under 19s. He started a 2-1 defeat against Sweden on Thursday, the first of three games in a mini tournament which also also involves Germany and Scotland. Ukraine play Germany on Sunday (September 27) and Scotland next Wednesday (September 30).

Posh centre-back David Okagbue is with the Ireland squad who tackle Slovenia in a European Under 21 Championship qualifier on Friday afternoon (5pm kick off).
