No president again, but other important bowls roles have been filled

There was a disappointing turn-out for the Northants Bowling Federation's annual meeting where, for the third year running, there was no nomination for the prestigious role of President.

Only 16 people were in attendance, several of them existing officials, and only eight of the 17 affiliated clubs were represented.

On the brighter side the administrative vacancies were filled with Alice Jones confirmed as treasurer following the tragic passing of Andy Cox during the season, Martyn Dolby decided to continue as chairman after originally planning to stand down and John Holroyd is the new match secretary, replacing Graham Agger who has stepped down after more than 20 years on the committee for which he was awarded a life membership.

There are also new captains for the two county teams, with Wayne Morris taking over the Adams Trophy squad, while Barry Lawrence and Dave Corney will be responsible for the Newton Trophy team. Lawrence, who is already a life member, was re-elected to the committee, along with Morris.

It has been decided that the county finals weekend introduced for the first time at Parkway this year will continue when Whittlesey Manor hosts it next July with both the Dan Duffy and Adams Cup finals being integrated into the timetable to provide additional interest and atmosphere.

Election of officers: Chairman, Martyn Dolby; secretary & competition secretary, Melvyn Beck; treasurer, Alice Jones; match secretary, John Holroyd; results secretary, Ally McNaughton; minutes' secretary, Linda Toms; safeguarding and welfare officer, Peter Brown; Adams captain, Wayne Morris; Newton captains, Barry Lawrence & Dave Corney; Derbyshire A captain, Simon Law; Derbyshire B captain, Dudley Smith; committee, Dudley Smith, Paul Dalliday, Barry Lawrence, Wayne Morris, Brian Martin.
