Temperatures in Peterborough to hit 33C this week as fourth heatwave of the summer arrives - here’s when it will be hottest

Temperatures are expected to climb once again after a brief reprieve

Peterborough is set to bake in its fourth heatwave of the summer this week, with temperatures expected to hit 33C.

Last week saw temperatures fall slightly after a scorching July so far, but forecasters are now warning that the city could once again reach the heatwave threshold.

The UK Health Security agency has issued an amber warning for the East of England, which will be in force between 9am on Wednesday, July 29 and 9am on Thursday, July 30.

The alert warns of “significant” impacts across health and social care services due to the high temperatures, including a rise in deaths among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions.

Water‑related incidents may increase, including risks from cold‑water shock and drowning. Peterborough has endured an exceptionally hot and dry summer so far, with a number of records dating back to the infamous summer of 1976 smashed.

A lack of rain has resulted in Peterborough being placed under a hosepipe ban by Anglian Water, meaning residents cannot use water for things like watering plants or cleaning cars.
