Pret a Manger to permanently close in Peterborough with 18 jobs axed

Sandwich shop Pret a Manger is to close its Peterborough outlet with the loss of 18 jobs.

The food chain has announced the shop in the Queensgate shopping centre is among 30 outlets nationwide it is to close after enduring ‘significant losses’.

A spokeswoman for the company said: “We have taken the difficult decision to not reopen our Peterborough shop.

“We’re incredibly grateful to all our Team Members and will be doing what we can to help them find new job opportunities.

She added: “Eighteen Team Members have sadly been affected.”

“Although we are working hard to adapt Pret to the new retail environment, the coronavirus pandemic has massively affected our industry and it is no longer financially viable for us to continue operations at this shop.

“We hope to return to Peterborough in future.”
