Hopes new roundhouse at Peterborough's Flag Fen burnt down by vandals to be rebuilt by Christmas
Flag Fen Archaelogical Park in Peterborough is hoping to complete the rebuild of one of its roundhouses before Christmas.
The Iron Age roundhouse at the country park was burned to the ground in an arson attack in July. The fire, which destroyed the thatched roof, oak frame, and daub walls was described as a ‘devastating loss.’
The roundhouse also served as a living classroom, where around 10,000 children each year visited to learn about their ancestors.
In response to the attack, supporters rallied and over £18,000 was raised, thanks to public and business support, to rebuild the roundhouse.

Work on rebuilding the roundhouse again began in August and is now expected to be completed by Christmas and such has been the wight of support, work on a second roundhouse has also begun and is expected to be completed in the new year!
Flag Fen General Manager Jacqui Mooney said: “We are so pleased that we’ve not only been able to replace the roundhouse but we’re also started on a second one as well.
"You could call it a Phoenix from the flames that we lost one roundhouse and gained two.”
Officers have confirmed, however, that the crime has been filed pending any further investigative lines of enquiry coming to light.
