Political View: People want genuine change
On 16 July, residents of Fletton & Woodston will once again head to the polls. This by- election comes at an important time for our community and reflects what I’ve been hearing time and time again on the doorstep – people want genuine change.
Not just the kind of change you hear about, but the kind you see and feel in your streets, neighbourhoods and everyday lives.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the privilege of speaking to residents across the ward.
Whether we’ve agreed politically or not, one message has been remarkably consistent: people are fed up with excuses that stem from council. They want action. They want councillors who are visible, who listen, and who get things done.
Reform UK offers a genuine alternative. We believe in spending taxpayers’ money wisely, supporting our Armed Forces, taking pride in our country and delivering common-sense politics. Those principles shouldn’t stop at Westminster – they should be reflected in how our local council operates too.
For too long, Peterborough City Council has lost sight of what matters most to local people. While millions have been committed to headline projects, too many of the everyday issues residents live with have been pushed down the list of priorities. Investment has its place, but not when the basics are being neglected. Residents expect safe roads, clean streets, action on anti-social behaviour and neighbourhoods they can be proud of before millions are committed elsewhere.
I’ve spoken to many residents who question whether projects such as Cygnet Bridge and the Station Quarter represent the right priorities when so many local concerns remain unresolved. Every pound of taxpayers’ money should be carefully scrutinised and refocused, if necessary, to deliver real value for the people who pay for it.
Across Fletton & Woodston, the same concerns are raised time and time again: dangerous speeding along Oundle Road, persistent anti-social behaviour around the Sugar Way estate, ward wide potholes, litter, fly-tipping, dumped vehicles, concerns around HMOs and the pressure they place on parking in already congested residential streets.
These are not isolated complaints, they’re recurring problems that residents have been raising for years. People are rightly frustrated that so many of these issues remain unresolved while attention continues to be focused elsewhere.
Politics shouldn’t be about accepting that these problems are simply part of everyday life.
They aren’t. With the right priorities, stronger leadership, strategic direction and councillors prepared to challenge the status quo, Peterborough can do better, and Fletton & Woodston deserves better.
I believe Reform UK’s arrival has given local politics the shake-up it has long needed.
Healthy democracy depends on fresh ideas, proper scrutiny and representatives prepared to challenge decisions when residents deserve better. The days of taking residents and their votes for granted must come to an end.
I’m standing because I believe Fletton & Woodston deserves strong, honest and consistent representation. I’ll be a councillor who is visible, approachable and prepared to challenge poor decisions, hold the council to account and never stop fighting for the community I represent.
On 16 July, you have a clear choice. If you want genuine representation, common-sense priorities and the kind of change you don’t just hear about but see and feel, I’d be honoured to earn your support and your vote for Reform UK.
