New Tesco store at Hampton Water applies for licence to sell alcohol
Upcoming store set to open in summer 2027
Tesco Stores Limited submitted the request for a premises licence on behalf of its new Hampton Water store on October 13, 2026.
The new store – which is scheduled to open in summer 2027 – is to be situated on Banbury Drive, just off Aqua Drive.
In its application to Peterborough City Council’s Licensing Section, Tesco requested:

“Licensable Activities applied for are: Sale by retail of alcohol for consumption off the premises; Monday to Sunday - 06:00 - 00:00; Provision of late night refreshment; Monday to Sunday - 23:00 - 00:00”.
The new food store will sit next door to the Busy Bees nursery within the growing new development. It is envisaged that the new store and nursery will help serve residents both in and around Hampton Water.
In addition, residents will also be invited to contribute to a Community Art Wall which will be displayed on the side of the new food store. It is hoped the wall will help to generate a greater sense of pride and ownership for the development’s community in their local amenities.
Four electric vehicle charging points will also feature when the development is fully complete, offering cleaner energy options for motorists.
Anyone who would like to have their say on Tesco’s licensing submission has until November 10 to share their views. All representations concerning the application should be made in writing to: Peterborough City Council, Licensing Section, Sand Martin House, Bittern Way, Fletton Quays, Peterborough, PE2 8TY.
