Peterborough Household Recycling Centre shuts after lorry fire

The Peterborough Household Recycling Centre has been forced to close after a lorry fire.

On Monday (November 17), Peterborough City Council said: “The Household Recycling Centre is temporarily closed due to a fire in one of our lorries. We apologise for the inconvenience, but safety must come first.”

Last week, a bin lorry caught fire in Gunthorpe, Peterborough, leaving crews with a huge clear-up operation.

Following the bin fire, a Peterborough City Council spokesperson said: “We’d like to remind residents that household batteries must be placed in a clear plastic bag and left on top of your bin lid—they should never go inside the bin. Batteries can also be recycled at the Household Recycling Centre.”
