WATCH: Man caught on CCTV stealing nearly £2,000 of booze from Peterborough Wetherspoons - now he's been jailed

A thief who broke into a pub in Peterborough city centre and stole nearly £2000 of alcohol has been jailed.

Damon Loates, 52, burgled the College Arms, in Broadway, via the rear garden entrance in the early hours of 15 May.

On 9 June, he was arrested by the spree offender team for the burglary and a theft of laundry products from Farmfoods, in Lincoln Road, Walton, Peterborough, two days prior to his arrest.

He appeared at court the following day and was bailed pending a further hearing, which he failed to attend.

After being arrested again, Loates was sentenced to six months in prison after admitting non-dwelling burglary and theft from a shop at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (4 August).

PC Jack Jenkins, who investigated, said: "Thefts, especially those where large amounts of stock are stolen, have adverse impacts on the businesses, and I would like to thank those targeted by Loates for reporting the incidents to us."
