Thousands of Peterborough households to receive £100 to help with winter bills

Thousands of Peterborough homes will receive a £100 payment in January to help with winter bills.

The move comes following the budget, delivered by chancellor, John Healey last week.

The move has been welcomed by councillor Shabina Qayyum, Leader of the Council and Labour Group in Peterborough, who said: "Families in Peterborough need breathing space, and real change, and fresh hope for the future – and that’s what this Budget delivered. Many residents have asked us what that means for them. And the facts in numbers are illustrated here:

“Families and businesses will be supported with rising energy bills, which have been driven up by global conflicts. £100 will make a difference to households all over Peterborough with the bills this winter, and that’s just the start.”

Cllr Mohammed Jamil, Deputy Leader of the Labour Group and Cabinet Member for Finance on the city council, said: "The Labour Government is giving 83,130 Households in Council Tax Band A-D £100 each to help with energy bills this winter. That is a potential payment of £8,313000 for the city's residents in the eligible tax bands and over 91.1% of all domestic properties in the city.

“Andy Burnham’s Government is starting the big changes needed to put the country on a better course, driving good growth in every postcode. This government is providing fresh hope for the future by taking on the big challenges we face, from energy, to housing, to our national security.”
