WATCH: Young would-be robbers carried out "shocking" attack on man at BMX track in Peterborough as it was filmed on a mobile phone
A pair of would-be robbers who attacked a man at a BMX track in Peterborough and tried to steal his bike have been jailed.
Cambridgeshire Police said Josiah Charles, 19, Yasir Mohammed, 20, and a 16-year-old boy who cannot be named for legal reasons, approached the victim at the track in Orton Malborne at about 3pm on 12 May.
“The trio began attacking the victim, punching him to the head, and demanding he hand over his bike - which was worth about £2,000,” a force spokesperson explained.
“A second man who was with the victim managed to get away and film the incident on his mobile phone, before calling the police.

“When he returned, he was threatened, before the three attackers managed to get away without the bike.
“The victim suffered severe bruising but did not require hospital treatment.”
Officers reviewed the footage of the incident captured on the mobile phone and identified and arrested two of the three suspects the following day.
“The remaining suspect Yasir Mohammed, who is from London, was arrested in Peterborough city centre two weeks later,” the spokesperson went on.

“All three denied attempted robbery but were found guilty following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court in December.”
On Monday (12 January) at the same court, Charles, of Medworth, Orton Goldhay, Peterborough, was jailed for three years and Mohammed, of Woodcote Avenue, Barnet, London, was jailed for two years and eight months. Both sentences included the activation of six-month suspended sentences.
Mohammed was also given a seven-year criminal behaviour order banning him from Peterborough.
Sentencing of the 16-year-old boy, who is from Peterborough and was also found guilty of attempting to rob the second man, was adjourned until 8 May, police said.
DC George Corney said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim. The behaviour of the defendants, and the violence they inflicted, was shocking.”
“I’d like to commend the second man for his quick thinking in capturing crucial video evidence using his phone and immediately seeking help.
“This evidence allowed officers to identify the suspects quickly and was instrumental during the court process.”
