Man stabbed Peterborough housemate in the head during an argument over the washing up
A man has been jailed after stabbing his housemate in the head in an argument over the washing up.
Cambridgeshire Police said Lloyd Heffernan, 54, “became angry with the victim after discovering he hadn’t done the washing up” at the house they shared in New Road, Woodston, Peterborough.
“The men got into a fight and Heffernan grabbed a bread knife off the worktop and stabbed the victim in the head,” a force spokesperson explained.
“The victim called police from a neighbour’s house and was treated by paramedics before being taken to Peterborough City Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

“Heffernan fled the scene of the incident, which happened at about 9pm on 20 February 2024, but was later arrested.”
Heffernan, of Eastfield Road, Peterborough, denied inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent but was found guilty following a trial and on Thursday (11 December) was jailed for a year and eight months at Cambridge Crown Court.
DC Jenny Hargreaves, who investigated, commented: “Heffernan’s senseless assault on his friend and housemate could have ended very differently. Thankfully, the victim received treatment from paramedics, and no lasting damage was done.”
