Knowles Logistics, one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 650 people, is extending its community engagement with a new road safety programme aimed at local schools.

As part of the initiative, the Knowles team will be visiting schools across the area to deliver interactive road safety sessions for children.

Using one of the company’s vehicles on-site, pupils will have the chance to learn first-hand about the importance of staying safe around large vehicles — including how to recognise blind spots and stay visible when walking or cycling near the road.

The programme aims to raise awareness of road safety while strengthening the connection between young people and the logistics industry that serves their communities every day.

This latest project reflects Knowles Logistics’ long-standing commitment to supporting the local area — a core part of the company’s values since it was founded more than 90 years ago. From education and safety to environmental care, Knowles continues to demonstrate how business success and community responsibility go hand in hand.

Recent examples of this include the company’s quick response to a request from Peckover Primary School, located close to its Wimblington site. When the school asked for a small number of pallets to support outdoor learning activities, Knowles was happy to help.

The pallets were donated, delivered, and positioned by Knowles colleague Ian Roberts, providing the children with valuable opportunities for hands-on, creative outdoor learning.

At nearby Thomas Eaton Primary Academy, Knowles’ contribution has helped make the area around the school safer for pupils. Funding provided by the company enabled the installation of brightly coloured “kiddie cut-outs” to encourage drivers to park and travel responsibly. Knowles also sponsored the pupils’ sports kits for inter-school events, fostering pride and teamwork within the local school community.

The company’s care for its community extends beyond schools. Earlier this year, Operations Manager Gavin Slater led a team of volunteers from the Salters Leverington Road site in a litter-picking initiative around the Harecroft Road sports fields.

Supported by the National Trust and Fenland District Council’s Street Pride scheme, the team gave up their lunch breaks to help improve the local environment for residents and visitors.

In addition, Knowles Logistics also sponsors Wimblington Mens and Ladies Football clubs.

Alex Knowles, Managing Director, said: “As one of the region’s biggest employers, we take our responsibility to our people and our community very seriously. With so many vehicles on the road every day, road safety and community wellbeing are at the heart of what we do. These initiatives clearly demonstrate that Knowles is a business built on strong values — and we’re proud to give back to the area that has supported us for generations.”

Founded in 1932, Knowles Logistics provides trusted supply chain solutions for some of the UK’s largest ambient food and packaging brands. The company operates nearly 400 vehicles — including one of the largest electric fleets in the UK 3PL sector — and manages over two million square feet of warehousing space across its network.
