Compass Fostering brings festive joy to local children with Christmas Star competition
Compass Fostering, a UK fostering agency supporting children and young people to grow and thrive in family homes, has been spreading festive cheer this winter through a special Christmas Star competition across its East region.
The competition invited children connected to the Compass fostering community, including foster children, birth children, and grandchildren of foster carers, to design and create their own personalised Christmas star. The aim was simple but powerful: to celebrate creativity, self-expression, and the importance of every child feeling seen and valued.
Compass Fostering works with dedicated foster carers to provide safe, nurturing homes for children and young people who cannot live with their birth families. Alongside foster carers, Compass offers wraparound therapeutic support, training, and 24/7 guidance, helping carers feel confident and supported while giving children the stability they need to flourish.
The response to the competition was inspiring, with each star reflecting the individuality and imagination of the young person who created it. All entries were proudly displayed at Hungate Church, transforming the space into a vibrant and heart-warming celebration of the Compass Community.
Foster carers Rachel and Dianne kindly volunteered their time to collect and arrange the stars, ensuring every child’s creation was given pride of place. Reflecting on the finished display, Dianne said: “It looked rather festive with the Compass Christmas tree in place!”
Adding a special touch to the competition, the winning star was personally chosen by Compass Fostering’s CEO, making the moment even more meaningful for the young person involved. The gesture underlined Compass Fostering’s belief that every child deserves encouragement, recognition, and someone in their corner.
More than a festive display, the Christmas Star competition served as a reminder of what fostering can achieve when carers, children, and professionals come together – creating moments of joy, confidence, and belonging that can last far beyond the festive season.
