Barney Brunner, a 24-year-old St John Ambulance first aider and Adult Lead of the local Peterborough St John Network, is taking on an extraordinary festive challenge this December: completing 78 miles over 12 runs between 2nd and 24th December.

Starting with a one-mile run and adding a mile each time, Barney will finish with a 12-mile run on Christmas Eve.

He already has 15 miles under his belt and is planning to run six miles later today. So far things have gone well but Barney is preparing for the longer runs to come, especially with the prospect of some harsher winter weather.

All funds raised will go to the Peterborough Network, supporting volunteers who deliver frontline community first aid and Cadets aged between 10 and 17 training to become the lifesavers of tomorrow.

Barney said: “Running 78 miles in December isn’t easy, especially with the cold and dark, but it’s a challenge worth taking on. This fundraiser is about investing in the volunteers who already serve on the front line of community first aid and the cadets who are learning to become the lifesavers of tomorrow. Together, we’re helping build a safer, more resilient future for everyone.”
