The cause of the cut is currently unknown but a spokesman for Vivacity - which operates the museum - said it is expected to be open tomorrow, with updates provided on its website and social media channels.

In addition, a lecture going ahead tonight called ‘The Prison at Norman Cross: The Lost Town of Huntingdonshire’ will now take place at Central Library in Broadway.

The lecture was due to start at 7.30pm but this will now be delayed to take into account any late arrivals.

Doors were also due to open today for the City Gallery’s first ever exhibition of Live Art called ‘Wash Your Dirty Linen in Public.’

The City Gallery is situated inside the museum.

However, this too will not go ahead today.
