Peterborough sides and local teams set to defy the coronavirus threat

There will be still be major sporting events in Peterborough and the surrounding area over the weekend despite the coronavirus threat.

The Football League has shut down until April and Peterborough Sports FC and Yaxley FC face an enforced two-week break after the Southern League also took the decision to suspend action for now.

But the key Northern Premier League matches at Stamford (v Spalding) and Wisbech Town (v Market Drayton) remain on tomorrow (March 14).

The United Counties League will continue as normal, while the Peterborough League, Peterborough Youth League and Peterborough Junior Alliance League will carry on, but with the option for clubs to postpone games without penalty.

The Peterborough Phantoms ice hockey matches will be played this weekend, while in rugby union the Peterborough Lions’ rugby union semi-final at Bretton Park will go ahead.

National League and East League is also set to go ahead.
