MATCH REPORT: Penalty shoot-out agony for the star City ladies

City of Peterborough Ladies suffered an agonising defeat on penalty flicks in the quarter-finals of the National Womens' Trophy at holders Alderley Edge yesterday (March 5).

The city stars travelled all the way to Cheshire to contest a match played in torrential rain. They performed well in a cracking match that finished 3-3 before losing the penalty shoot-out 4-3.

City twice led through player-of-the-match Anna Faux and Holly Finding, but then required an equaliser 10 minutes from time from Tierney Augustine to take the match to penalties.

Lauren Finding, Emma Faux and Augustine scored their flicks, but Lucy Dakin and Robyn Gribble missed. Finding then missed her flick in sudden death. City goalkeeper Eliska Srnska saved a flick.

It’s been an outstanding season fo far for City. They will clinch promotion from East Division One North win a win over lowly Norwich Dragons on Saturday 9March 11).
