Wisbech Hockey Club have national champions in their ranks.

The club’s veterans won the National Over 40s Shield at the Olympic Park in London after a thrilling game against Norwich Dragons which went all the way to a penalty shoot out.

Wisbech fought back from an early deficit to take the lead through a double-strike from Kiwi Brad Apted. Apted, who was playing his last game for the club, shot Wisbech into the lead 10 minutes from time, bu

t Norwich converted a late short corner to take the game to penalties.

Jody Betts and Jonathan Shippey scored theirs before Nick Osborn fired home the winner.

It’s a first national title for Wisbech who have several runners-up finishes to their name.
