His arrival started us thinking about other Posh defensive loan signings and here we’ve compiled a list of the best and the worst complete with a performance-based mark out of 10.
We’ve discounted anyone who went on to sign permanently for Posh so a passing mention only to top loan signings Tom Williams and Mark Little.
17. DANIEL LAFFERTY
A Northern Ireland international left-back who joined Posh on loan from Sheffield United for the second-half of the 2019-20 season. He made 21 appearances and was decent as Posh just missed out on a play-off place. Posh rating: 7/10.
18. MARCUS WILLIAMS
Left-back Williams was an excellent Championship player for Scunthorpe, but by the time he joined Posh from Reading on loan, in November, 2010 he was a spent force. Williams made just 3 Posh appearances when 11 goals were conceded. He went on to play in the Football League for Sheffield United and at Scunthorpe again. Posh rating 1/10.
19. JAMES CHESTER
Centre-back Chester played 5 times in 19 days for a Posh side heading for promotion from League One after joining on loan from Manchester United in February, 2009. He finished on the losing side just once, but once manager Darren Ferguson could select Gaby Zakuani and Ryan Bennett at the back again Chester became surplus to requirements, although he went on to have a strong career at Hull and Aston Villa. Villa paid West Brom £9 million for Chester after the Baggies had paid Hull £8 million for his services. Chester is now at Championship club Stoke City. Posh rating 7/10.
20. ALAN SHEEHAN
Utility defender Sheehan (pictured playing against Posh) moved to Posh on loan from Bradford City in March 2015, but made just one start. Went on to play well for Luton Town, but is now at League Two strugglers Oldham. Posh rating 1/10.
