Peterborough United made an unsuccessful bid for red hot Crawley Town striker Max Watters this month.

Posh co-owner Darragh MacAnthony made the revelation during today’s (January 20) edition of his popular ‘Hard Truth’ podcast.

Watters (21) scored 16 goals in 19 appearances for Crawley this season, a record which attracted interest from several higher-ranked clubs, including Posh.

But the striker chose to go to Championship club Cardiff City for a reported fee of £1 million.

“We were interested in Max,” MacAnthony stated. “Darren Ferguson actually took Max to Doncaster from where he moved to Crawley so he had a great relationship with the player’s family.

“We felt we had a fighting chance, but once a club from the Championship becomes involved it becomes difficult for us.

“Max chose to go to Cardiff and good luck to him and his new club. Max dropped down a division to get playing again and he’s been rewarded for his hard work.”
