Whittlesey Athletic will book a place in United Counties Division One with victory over Peterborough Sports Reserves in their penultimate Peterborough Premier Division fixture tomorrow (May 10).

The fighters from Feldale Field moved to within three points of confirming promotion with an expected 6-0 thrasing of lowly Leverington on Saturday (May 7). Six differemt players, Jack Bates, Joe Butterworth, Matt Heron, Liam Harrold, Sam Donohoe and Harry Jenkins - scored the goals.

If Whittlesey fail tomorrow, against a club who will have a cup final 24 hours later on their minds, they will have another shot at promotion at Uppingham on Saturday (May 14).

Netherton United have not given up hope of overhauling Whittlesey, although they struggled to win 2-1 at Uppingham last Saturday. Adam Scott and Luke Elsom scored the goals for the city side who host Sawtry on Wednesday (May 11) when their fate may already be known.

Steve Mastin played 70 minutes for Netherton before dashing off to the Zeeco Stadium in Stamford to help UCL side Blackstones beat Peterborough Division One champions Stamford Lions 3-2 in the final of the Daniels Cup. Mastin scored twice in that game after coming on as a second half substitute. Calum Parker scored Stones’ other goal.

Pinchbeck are guaranteed at worst third place in the Premier Division following a 6-2 win at Crowland in a game that was tougher than the final scoreline suggests. Crowland led twice through Corbyn Oldham and Teddy Paling, but player-manager Ian Dunn’s hat-trick proved decisive.

Champions Moulton Harrox beat ICA Sports 4-0 in their final match before receiving the trophy from league officials. The top flight’s top scorer Ollie Maltby scored twice to take his tally to 42 goals for the campaign, while Bobby Patterson and Ben Allen were also on target for a team that won 29 of their 34 matches and lost just twice.

Martyn Fox and Josh Staggs scored the goals as Stanground beat Holbeach Reserves 2-1, while there was a second win in a row for Sawtry, 1-0 over Thorney. Sawtry have secured back-to-back single-goal victories straight after a

17-game run without a win.

Wisbech Town Reserves beat fellow Division One side Whittlesey Athletic Reserves in the final of the Chairman’s Shield, 5-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

There’s a PFA Junior Final at Chestnut Avenue tonight (May 9, 7.30pm) between Rutland Dead Rabbits and Stamford Lions Reserves.

Wisbech Town tackle Cambridge City in the final of the Cambs Invitation Cup at Cambridge United’s Abbey Stadium tonight (7.30pm).
