The Sensas Mark One team were given a massive boost ahead of the fast approaching Division One National on the tidal River Trent when their team man Bob Bates won the Individual National on the venue at the weekend.

Bates put close to 29kg to the scales, catching 10 barbel and a bream on a big feeder fished mid-river on a day which saw some very encouraging weights taken.

As if that was not enough good news on the individual front this week, Spalding angler Matt Arnold has gone through to the Maver Match This Final once again from Hallcroft Fishery, topping the field on Saturday with 161lb 14oz.

Yet another local angler, John Smalley, travelled over to the Midlands to fish the Maver Match This Qualifier on Barston Lake on Sunday.

Against a very strong field he put a fine 107lb 3oz net of carp to the scales from peg 122.

He caught fish to 14lb on a pellet waggler with most of his fish coming in the second half of the match.

He will now go through to the grand final at Hayfield Fishery with Arnold and John Whincup and all stand a chance of winning a massive £50,000 plus if they can put in the performance of a lifetime.

COCK INN

The small carp lake at Kingsland Fishery has been very kind to those fishing the Cock Inn matches on the venue and on Sunday it was just as good as usual.

After a slow start it really got going with a good few fish over 10lb putting in a show all round the lake.

Top rod once again and showing his class was Chris Shortland with 157lb of good sized carp caught close in on the feeder from peg three.

It was a slow start for Shortland, but in the last two hours he couldn’t get the feeder back in quick enough. Wrapping paste around his banded pellet proved very effective later on.

Runner-up and achieving a personal best weight was Danny O’Brien with a very respectable 156lb 14oz. He feeder fished with meat close in from peg seven.

Third place went to Mick Sidney with 131lb 2oz. He caught on pole fished sweetcorn close in.
