Residents in Peterborough who would like to adopt refugee children can find out more at a meeting this evening (Tuesday, April 5).

The meeting is at the Allama Iqbal Centre in Cromwell Road from 6pm.

Last month, Peterborough City Council leader Councillor John Holdich said the authority is considering a request from the government to support 15 children who are refugees from Syria.

Speaking at the time, he said: I’ve considered the government’s request and I would like to confirm we are willing to assist if we are able to do so.

“But I would need further information from the government before agreeing.”

A debate last October on whether the council should take in refugees turned sour as councillors from opposite parties argued vehemently.
