Man hospitalised after serious fire at Whittlesey car business

Crews from Whittlesey, Stanground and Dogsthorpe were called at 4.15pm to the building fire in Cock Bank, Whittlesey. Smoke was issuing from a single storey industrial building measuring about 25m by 30m. The building was used as car repair facility and workshop.

Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish a small fire involving a vehicle inside the building.

One male casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Positive pressure ventilation fans were used to clear smoke from the building.

Station Commander Karl Bowden said: “The fire started in one of the vehicles that was undergoing repair but thanks to the quick response and the firefighting actions of those first on scene, the fire was contained and was stopped from spreading to the rest of the building.”

Crews returned to their stations by 6.15pm. The cause of the fire was accidental.
