Help us catch '˜savage' killer of Wisbech woman Una Crown

Det Insp Fraser Wylie says the recent re-appeal for information into the 86-year-old’s death has received a “limited response”.

Mrs Crown was last seen alive on Friday, January 11, 2013, but had spoken to a friend at 5pm the following day.

Her body was found on Sunday, January 13, 2013. A post-mortem examination revealed she had died of stab wounds and her body had been set on fire.

Det Insp Wylie is now calling for anyone with information to step forward.

He said: “This is one of the most atrocious crimes we have had to investgate. An 86-year-old lady, who was born in that community and had lived there all her life, was murdered on her own doorstep.

“It is horrendous, someone out there knows something and they need to be brave and talk to us about what they know.

“Someone murdered quite savagely Una Crown on her doorstep. They are still out there and need to be caught.”

Det Insp Wylie says the case is regularly reviewed and officers are still following up leads.

But he would not discuss forensic evidence and said the team was keeping an open mind on the motive.

Around the anniversary of Mrs Crown’s death, police had put out an appeal. He added: “There was an extremely limited response. It is frustrating.”

Dept Insp Wylie said he recently met Mrs Crown’s family, who are desperate for news.

In re-appealing for information, Det Insp Wylie said: “The message to the community is help us as we are still searching for the person that killed Una Crown.

“We want to bring that person to justice. The family want us to bring that person to justice.

“Someone in the community needs to be brave enough to step up and talk to us and tell us what we need to know.

“We as a police force can’t do this alone, we need the help of the community.”
