A woman who spat at a man during the COVID pandemic has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Laura Byrne, of High Street, Fletton, Peterborough, spat at the man on July 7 last year.
She appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court earlier this month, where she pleaded guilty to assault by beating.

She was given a six week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to pay compensation of £100 and costs of £100.

Magistrates said the custodial sentence had to be imposed because of the danger spitting represented during the pandemic.
