The crime happened on the cycle path on the Embankment that runs parallel with Potters Way as the victim, a 70-year-old woman, was cycling home at about 4pm on Monday, February 20.

The woman saw two men approaching her on a moped not wearing helmets.

They rode up close behind and the passenger went to grab her handbag in the front basket of her bike.

However, the bag strap was wrapped into the basket so the victim was pulled to the ground. The strap snapped and the robbers rode off towards Bishop’s Road.

The victim was slightly injured but shaken and upset.

The rider of the moped wore a blue and white bandana, which covered his face and a grey hooded top. The passenger was wearing all black and a Trilby-style hat.

DC Fran Scott said: “The victim was helped after the incident by two passers-by and two police officers were alerted nearby.

“I would urge anyone with information about this crime to get in touch.”

Anyone with information should contact DC Scott on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
