AS part of its nationwide expansion programme, Toolstation is to open a new Peterborough trade counter branch and create six new jobs. The company supplies a range of power tools, accessories, work wear, screws and fixings throught its internet and trade counter units throughout the UK and Europe.

Fitting out on the new city unit began on Monday, February 2.

The unit, at 1 Darlows Business Centre, is at the heart of the Eastern Industrial area and very prominently located fronting Fengate immediately adjacent to Ridgeons Builders Merchants and opposite Andrews Builders Merchants, Magnet and Southern.

Bucking the current economic trend, Toolstation, which was bought out by Travis Perkins in October 2008, is currently on a massive expansion programme with the aim of opening two to three branches per month over the next 12-month period.

The company currently has in excess of 50 trade counter units open, or in advanced legal stages.

It is currently fitting out a new distribution facility of 142,000 sq ft in Redditch which will be fully operational in May 2009.

The 4,300 sq ft Peterborough premises have been let to Toolstation at a rent of 36,000 per annum exclusive.

The agent acting for the developer, Fengate Developments, was Richard Jones, of commercial agent Barker Storey Matthews.

Richard said: "The unit is ideally positioned for it in the heart of the main trade counter area in Peterborough.

"It complements the builders merchant use next door where our client, Fengate Developments, developed over 20,000 sq ft for Ridgeons Builders Merchants in 2007.

Planning consent exists to contruct anything from 5,000sq ft-36,000 sq ft of space for similar uses and will be developed as required."
