Do you have a tried and tested recipe that has been passed down the generations?

Is it on a slightly dog-eared piece of paper, wedged into a bulging recipe book stained with bits of ingredients or is it preserved in special plastic files?

Is it a well-kept family secret or something you would share with others?

Peterborough arts organisation Metal is interested to hear from you in preparation for an exhibition on one of everyone’s favourite topics – food.

Last year Metal brought the incredible Harvest Festival and Meal to Cathedral Square.

In September this year, the artists behind the meal, Lucy and Jorge Orta, will open a new exhibition called FOOD at Peterborough City Gallery. It will contain new arts works inspired by their time in Peterborough as well as sculptures all about food waste and preservation.

In celebration of the exhibition, Metal is seeking your recipes for pickles, jams and preserves or cakes and puddings.

The recipes need to focus on ways to preserve the abundance of harvest or using foods that would normally go to waste.

For example, green tomato chutney as a way of using up those tomatoes, crab apple jelly or using ripe bananas to make cake.

A selection of the recipes will be picked out by Prevost chef Lee Clarke and illustrated by Paper Rhino designer Amanda Rigby, ready to be shared with the public at a weekend of cooking during the exhibition in September. Those selected will also be invited to a special lunch with Lee Clarke where he will share the selected recipes.

Rather than recipes taken from modern day recipe books, Metal are particular interested in recipes handed between generations or ones from different countries. You can type it up and send it by email, send a photocopy or scan of your recipe sheet (the one with your comments on and drips of ingredients), or perhaps write it up and illustrate it yourself. The main thing is to add in why you love it and where it has come from.
