Choosing which secondary school to send your child to is an important decision that will impact their lives and future. Now the flurry of school open evenings is over, there are many factors to consider before making a final selection based on which school best suits your child.

Based in the Walton area of Peterborough and served by excellent transport links, Queen Katharine Academy, part of TDET (Thomas Deacon Education Trust), is a school that has gone from strength to strength over the past few years.

As well as its Good Ofsted rating, the academy has been steadily accumulating national awards. This year, the academy has been awarded the TES Teaching Assistant of the Year award and Silver National Teaching Awards for both Secondary Teacher of the Year and Outstanding New Teacher of the Year. In 2021 the academy was awarded TES English Teacher or Team of the Year, as well as the Bernice McCabe Award for Subject Leadership in English, and Pearson Silver Award for Impact through Partnership.

Boasting outstanding teaching, delivered by a highly skilled team of dedicated and enthusiastic staff, the academy focuses on inspiring students to have high aspirations. This focus encourages its young people to aim high for their futures with a curriculum packed with high-quality enrichment opportunities, extra-curricular clubs and cultural experiences. In July, the academy was shortlisted for the UK Social Mobility Awards and celebrated its 1,000th student becoming the first in their family to be offered a place at university, showing the breadth of the impact this focus is having.

Principal of Queen Katharine Academy, Philip Masterson, said: “As well as being an impressive academy with first-rate facilities, we take enormous pride in providing a broad, relevant and exciting curriculum to all our students. Our aim is to equip our young people to transform their lives and futures as well as the lives of others, and to shape our society and world in a positive way.

“We have a superb teaching team across our many subjects as well as strong pastoral care, and our Sixth Form is always oversubscribed. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, which celebrates differences and provides the best possible opportunities to each and every one of our students.

“We are really excited about the year ahead and I am delighted about the way the academic year has started, especially with the record number of Year 7 students joining us this year.”

Queen Katharine Academy is part of Thomas Deacon Education Trust (TDET), a multi-academy trust and charitable organisation dedicated to raising educational outcomes across a range of primary and secondary phase schools and academies in the East of England.
