The former England Schoolboys player balances his semi-professional football career with his full-time job as an assistant site manager at Bellway’s Primrose Grove development in Wimblington – just down the road from the club’s homeground on Robingoodfellows Lane in March.

And the housebuilder is sponsoring both Danny and the club for the forthcoming 2026/27 season, when the Hares will be attempting to live up to their tag as favourites for the Eastern Counties League Premier Division title after suffering the heartbreak of play-off defeat in the last campaign.

Danny, who lives in March and has played for the club for almost a decade, said: “The club is the heart and soul of the town. It’s a major focal point for the community and we regularly get crowds of 400 to 500 people coming through the gates.

“We are a grassroots football club that has worked its way up from the bottom and we don’t have the resources that other bigger football clubs in the area have, so having the support of local businesses is absolutely crucial. Bellway is a company that really cares about the local communities where it builds and I’m so grateful that they are sponsoring both myself and the club for the 2026/27 season.

“I’ve been the captain for years, and my dad and my grandfather both played for them, so it’s a club that’s close to my heart. The club has ambitious plans to develop the ground, move up through the leagues and grow – and that’s something I want to be part of.”

The 31-year-old central defender, whose professional football career was ended by a broken leg at the age of 16, has played for several clubs at semi-professional level, including in the National League – the fifth tier of the English footballing pyramid – but says March Town United is where he feels most at home.

He is now enjoying a new career in construction after joining Bellway as an assistant site manager in January 2025, working at the Primrose Grove development just down the road from where he lives.

He said: “I was with another housebuilder about five years ago and then I became a high school teacher. I was keen to get back into construction and when the opportunity came up with Bellway I jumped at it. I really enjoy the work and being part of a great team. Bellway is a company that wants to invest in its people and I appreciate the opportunities they are giving me to progress in my career.”

Work at Primrose Grove, at land off March Road in Wimblington, is progressing well and the site is over 60 per cent sold. Bellway’s development includes 66 properties for private sale and 22 affordable homes for local people, alongside public open space and a play area.
