There are well over 550 beers available at the 47th Peterborough Beer Festival but these have been whittled down to just six or seven of each variety by industry insiders at a tapping out party on Monday night (August 24) and presented to the judging panel on Tuesday morning.

Volunteers will then whittle down the beers to be best in each category to be submitted for final testing when CAMRA trained judges will make the final selection for the festival’s champions beer.

The overall Festival Beer and Cider will then be presented before the festival opens to the public.

Among the ranks of the judges this year was Peterborough MP Andrew Pakes.

He said: “It’s brilliant to get the Beer Festival back, we have been waiting a long time for this and so much hard work has gone into getting it all ready.

"It’s great to see so many volunteers out helping to pick the champions beer.

"This is a great hing for Peterborough and really one of the best beer festivals in the country.
