Amazing discovery of roller-skates dating back over 35 years to the heyday of Peterborough's rink- you can claim a pair at an upcoming reunion!

The reunion of a former roller skating rink in Peterborough will now hold a lot more nostalgia following an amazing discovery.

On Sunday June 20, The Rollers Peterborough Reunion, a fun night of nostalgia and music from back in the day will take place.

The reunion will be a call back to the late 80s and early 90s when the city’s roller rink in Fengate was at the height of its popularity.

The venue, with the Big R ten pin bowling ally next door, enjoyed the top of the range sound and lighting systems along with its high end maple wood floor, and was very much loved by thousands in Peterborough who often skated there two or three times a week.

There was much shock and anger when it announced its closure in 1991.

Ahead of the upcoming reunion, staff at Skaters in Wisbech, where the reunion is being held, have discovered a box of old roller skates from the Peterborough rink dating back over 35 years.

After considering what to do with them, it has been decided that those attending the reunion will be able to take a pair home for themselves with the only ask being a small donation to Cancer Research UK.

The chance to own a unique piece of memorabilia is available with a ticket for the event, which are priced at £10 and available at www.skaterswisbech.co.uk/event/rollers-reunion/.

Chris Holland, one of the original Rollers DJs and now PCR FM presenter who will be playing the music once more at the reunion, said: “It was a meeting place for children and adults and still holds precious memories for so many.

“It will be an evening where all those that enjoyed skating together can come together once again and head back in time.

“Every song played on the night will be from that time, transporting everyone back to 1989/90. This promises to be a fun night of nostalgia and memories, bearing in mind most people will be in their 50s and 60s now so may not be quite as nimble as back then. And they have quite possibly not been on wheels since, so this could be quite eventful.”
