Stamford Shoestring back on stage with a rom-com

Stamford Shoestring Theatre Company will return to the stage at the Stamford Arts Centre in early June with their latest project – a one-act romantic comedy called Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons.

Alexander Woods makes his directorial debut for the group with with the Sam Steiner play, which charts the relationship between an aspiring musician called Oliver and Bernadette, a trainee lawyer.

Their story starts with a chance meeting at a rather quirky funeral, and we watch as they endeavour to carve out a loving relationship in an increasingly strange and insecure world. A world where the government has passed a law to control how many words its citizens are permitted to speak in one day.

This award-winning drama premiered at the Warwick Arts Centre in 2015 and was the debut work for Sam Steiner, who has subsequently gone on to receive further critical acclaim on both stage and screen.

Shoestring’s cast of ‘two’ introduces us to theatrical newcomer Iestyn Jones. Alongside Iestyn they welcome back Lucy Thornton-Reid. Lucy has performed many times for the company and features regularly at nearby Tolethorpe Hall for Stamford Shakespeare Company.

Director Alexander Woods says: “It’s a pleasure to work with Lucy, she is a consummate professional and I am really excited to introduce the audience to Iesyn Jones. Companies like Shoestring are crying out for young men to join their ranks so Iestyn is a real find. ’Lemons’ packs a lot into its hour and twenty minutes. It’s a love story but so much more. There’s humour, it’s very funny at times. But it also asks some pretty important questions about what we say, how we say it and what happens when we can’t say anything anymore?”

Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons is on at the Stamford Arts Centre from June 2-6. Rickets from 01780 763203.
