Third manPike takesa £600catch

Former Elton Furze star Adam Pike fired a superb round in last week's Weston Homes East Region Championship to take third place and earn himself a £600 prize.

The 28 year-old, now a PGA trainee professional at Brampton Park, shot a six-under-par 66 at the Essendon Country Club in the second East PGA Order of Merit event of the year.

It was his best ever Order of Merit finish and included on his card were six birdies plus an eagle three at the sixth.

Pike, a former pupil at Prince William School, Oundle, started playing golf at the age of 10 at Elton Furze.

The annual Lincs Seniors Past & Present Captains Day competition was played at Thorney Lakes Golf Club and  involved 26 teams of four from all over Lincolnshire.  The team event was won by Gedney Hill Golf Club with 104 points.  In the individual competition Carl Claxton from Gedney Hill was third out of the 127 golfers taking part with 37 points. He represented Cambridgeshire at junior and senior level and turned professional in 2013.

James Webber from the Three Rivers Golf & Country Club in Chelmsford won the event with a superb eight-under 64.

Thorpe Wood professional Stuart Brown, defending the title he won a year ago, ended up tied 27th after a one-under-par round of 71.
