Watson held his nerve to create Six Reds Championship history at the Court Club

Stuart Watson held his nerve in a thrilling final defeating Luke Simmonds 3-2 to win the Six Reds Championship at the Court Club, Bretton, and pocket the £500 top prize.

Watson becomes the first player to win the title twice, having claimed victory in the inaugural 2020 event.

The pre-tournament favourite lived up to his billing by easing past local players Graham Tilley [a late replacement for veteran Vaughan Lutkin] 5-1 in round one and Steve Martin 3-1 in the quarter-finals before surviving a deciding frame shoot-out to beat Australian Ryan Thomerson in the last four.

Runner-up Simmonds, who had been successful in four Legends Tour events in the past year and earned £225 for the day, overcame Dan Burt 5-2 in his opener, and later saw off Kristian Willetts 3-1 and Gray Skipworth in a gripping semi-final 3-2.

Next up on tour is the Masters Cup in three weeks time, with £500 on offer for the champion and a final chance to qualify for the lucrative year-end Legends League in December.
