Solid performance from the Gunthorpe gymnast at the World Championships to help Great Britain deliver a best performance

Gunthorpe gymnast Jake Jarman finished sixth in the men’s all-around individual competition at the Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam.

Jarman’s Great Britain teammate Joe Fraser won the bronze medal to become only the third Brit to win a medal in an event which tests the gymnasts ability on every apparatus.

Japan's Daiki Hashimoto scored 85.988 to win his fourth successive all-around gold, while China's Haonan Yang took silver with 84.199. Fraser scored 83.531, while Jarman wasn’t far off a podium spot with a score of 82.865, but his sixth-place finish means it is the best result by a pair of British men in the all-around event at a World Championships.

Jarman began his campaign on floor with a strong start on one of his favoured apparatus scoring 13.933 points. He was superb on the pommel horse with a very well executed routine scoring him 13.366. He controlled his rings routine well and stuck his landing to score 13.066.

Vault is another of Jarman’s specialties and he proved it with a big performance of a high difficulty routine scoring him 14.9. His parallel bars was very nicely performed and again his dismount stuck perfectly scoring him 14.2. Jake ended on the high bar and again impressed with his precision of delivery scoring him 13.4.

Jarman said: “I’m incredibly happy overall with my performance. It’s given me such a buzz seeing what’s possible having watched Joe in action. it’s so exciting for the future with things I know I can now aim to achieve and no doubt the potential British Gymnastics has is incredible.”

Jarman (24) has realistic medal chances in the floor event on Saturday and the vault competition on Sunday. He is the current floor World Champion and a former vault World Champion.

Great Britain had finished fourth in the team event on Tuesday when Jarman showed fine form in the Netherlands. Jarman delivered scores of 14.5 on the floor, 13.366 on the pommel, a superb 14.886 on the vault and 13.22 on the high bar.

GB led after four of the six rotations before they were overtaken by reigning champions Japan, Russia and China. The top three qualified for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, but GB will have other opportunities to secure their place.

The individual finals will be shown on BBC over the weekend with 1pm starts on both days.
