Perfect home show performances from the fighters at the Top Yard Boxing Club
Top Yard Boxing Club stars won four out of four bouts at the club’s own show at the Gladstone Community Centre.
It was a 12-bout show and host club boxers Owais Javed (13) and Dan Moloney (13) also delivered impressive displays in skills (non-scoring) bouts.
The four Top Yard competitive fighters were...
Joe Loveridge (11) who won a 26kg fight unanimously on points. The city lad dictated the pace of the fight for all 3 rounds and showed the superior skillset.
Johnny Winters (13) who won a 46kg fight on a split points decision. This fight was scrappy at times. After losing the first round Winters sat back on his shots better and out-landed his opponent in the last 2 rounds. It was a close bout, but the Top Yard boy did enough to win.
Lilly-Mai Fanning (13) who won a 37kg contest on a splits points decision. It took the Top Yard boxer a while to get to grips with a strong opponent and she lost the first round. But Fanning stepped it up in the 2nd and 3rd rounds to take the verdict. This was a very close fight, but throwing the cleaner shots in rounds and 2 and 3 won the decision.
Jerry-Mike Connors (16) who won a 63kg bout unanimously on points. Connors had to really dig deep for the win. After a close first round he picked up the pace in the 2nd round and was more aggressive pushing his opponent onto the backfoot. A strong flurry of combinations towards the end of the 2nd round sealed the round for him and the 3rd round was also won comfortably.
Elsewhere Top Yard prospect Patrick Connors (17) shook off some ring rust ahead of some prestigious Box Cup entries with a win over a home fighter at 72kg in Finchley.
Connors was soon into his stride though and put his opponent under relentless pressure to win by a wide margin.
