Great character and resilience at Oulton Park as Alfie stays top of the standings

Maxey driver Alfie Garford showed resilience and character to fight back from a race one setback and claim victory in race two of the 2026 Mini Challenge JCW Sport Championships at Oulton Park.

The Wera Alliance Academy ace arrived in Cheshire looking to continue his impressive form and, despite facing challenges over the weekend, Garford once again demonstrated why he remains in title contention.

Oulton Park's demanding layout provided a stern test for drivers and machinery alike, with a gearbox issue hampering Garford's qualifying efforts and preventing his car from showing its true potential over a single lap.

The problem carried into the opening race, where the loss of third gear made life particularly difficult.

But, rather than allowing the setback to derail his weekend, Garford responded in great style. The 17 year-old Loughborough College student battled

hard to limit the damage in race one and collected valuable points as team-mate Murray Richardson claimed a maiden victory, while the Wera Alliance Academy team worked tirelessly behind the scenes to resolve the gearbox issue.

And their efforts were rewarded in spectacular fashion. With the car restored to full health, Garford produced a commanding performance in the second

race, surging to the front of the field to claim a deserved victory and stay out in front in the championship standings.

"It wasn't the weekend we wanted after the gearbox issues put us on the back foot from qualifying onwards," said Garford. "Losing third gear in race

one made things incredibly difficult, but the team worked non-stop and we kept fighting for every point available."

The win ensures Garford heads into the summer break with momentum on his side.

Team principal Pete Osborne was delighted with how Garford handled adversity. "For Alfie, it was a weekend of damage limitation," said Osborne. "The gearbox issue was unfortunate and obviously affected his qualifying and race one, but he never stopped fighting. The maturity he showed was excellent."

The series now heads into a summer break before the next round at Knockhill in Scotland on August 8.
