SPEEDWAY: Team boss Trevor Swailes lauded a 56-36 Elite League win at Poole as the greatest away performance in Panthers history. Hans Andersen bagged 17 points with Karol Zabek contributing 13.

GOLF: Ian McInerney beat Kevin Blackwell by 8 shots in an 18-hole play-off in the Thorney Club Championship Final.

ATHLETICS: PAC’s young heptathlon star Louise Hazel was selected for the GB team to compete in the European Championships in Sweden.

CRICKET: Henko Bornmann took two wickets in the first over of the match as Peterborough Town beat Stony Stratford by 7 wickets.

CRICKET: A former players XI beat a President’s XI in a match staged to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Rutland Cricket League at Barnack in July, 2006. Chris Thomas (93) and Gary Scotcher (52) dominated the President’s XI score of 194-7, but 80 from 63 year-old Alan Weston saw the ex-players home by 5 wickets.

GOLF: Orton Meadows’ ‘awesome foursome’ of Carol Bowers, Mary Webber, Jayne Crooks and Wendy Miller saw off Felixstowe Ferry in the sixth round of the Mail on Sunday Classic.

TENNIS: A Nottingham Forest junior footballer Richard Dell beat his Bushfield Juniors FC teammate Jamie Graham in the final of the Hereward Sports Junior Tournament.

POSH: Coventry City boss Ron Atkinson tipped the club to win promotion from Division Two in Barry Fry’s first season as manager.

SPEEDWAY: Panthers became the first team to beat Wolverhampton in 13 meetings with a 56-40 Elite League success at Alwalton. Jason Crump and Sam Tesar top-scored with 12 points each.

CRICKET: Alan Swann travelled from the Isle of Wight to Wellingborough to play for Peterborough Town and was dismissed for a first-ball duck as the hosts won their Northants Premier League match by 6 wickets,

ICE HOCKEY: Pirates axed Jason Porter, Cassie Dawkins and Steven Johnson to make way for GB forward Simon Perkins.

CRICKET: Orton Park’s Duncan Craig was picked by Hunts for the first-time.

GOLF: Milton’s team of Martin Herson, Richard Cole, Brian West, Jim Ellis, Ray Beekie, Ian McCrae and Alistair Mclean won the Northants County title with a 5-2 final success against Prior’s Hall.

TENNIS: Michael Humphries and Harvey Swann beat Wayne Humphries and Paul Toms 6-4, 6-2 in the final of the Bretton Club Championships.

CRICKET: Former Posh star John Cozens topped the ET Merit Table batting charts thanks to an innings of 172 for the British Rail chairman’s XI.

FOOTBALL: Eye won their own 5-a-side tournament beating Whittlesey All Stars 4-0 in the final with goals from Gary Breen (2), Nicky Breen and George Leo.

SPEEDWAY: Panthers’ chances of National League honours suffered a fatal blow as Milton Keynes won 40-38 at the Showground. Only Kevin Hawkins (12 points) shone for the home side.

CRICKET: Neil Taylor took 4-29 as Peterborough Town thumped Bletchley by 8 wickets in the Northants League.

POSH: Trevor Slack’s £20k move from London Road to Rotherham was put down to the player’s ambition.

CRICKET: Rock-bottom Coates were dismissed for 16 by Alconbury in the Peterborough League.

CRICKET: Alan Tait (69), Jim Wyllie (43) and Tony Howorth (5-34) were the stars as Peterborough Town beat Old Wellingburians in the Northants League.

OLYMPICS: Peterborough policeman Geoff Capes finished in a disappointing sixth place in the Olympic shot putt final in Montreal.

POSH: Ernie Moss and David Gregory scored as Luton were beaten 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at London Road.

CRICKET: Paceman Ian Jones claimed 6-28 as Market Deeping beat Pagnell by 45 runs in the final of the Hodkinson Cup.

SPEEDWAY: Panthers were beaten 44-34 at Oxford in the New National League. Brian Clark top scored for the city side with 12 points.

POSH: A last-gasp goal denied Noel Cantwell’s team a point in their opening Division Three match of the season at Sheffield Wednesday. Ernie Moss scored twice for Posh in a 3-2 defeat, while debutant midfielder Bob Doyle was the best player on the pitch by a distance.

CRICKET: Medium pacer Paul Turner bagged 7-18 as Castor thrashed bottom club Welland by 7 wickets to stay clear at the top of the Peterborough League.
