Darren still plays for Stanground Sports. He was a young professional at Hull City before injuries took their toll.
His dream team are playing in a 4-4-2 formation and his substitutes are: Dave Beeny, Danny Cairns, Ben Daley, Lee Davidson, Darren Paling, Ashley Favell, Paul Gauntlett and Gareth Sanderson.
1.
Goalkeeper Lewis Moat: “Lewis is a brilliant goalkeeper who won the league with Whittlesey Athletic before moving on to play for Sports at level four! Big, commanding and an excellent shot stopper. Still young and could go on to bigger and better things if he cared!”
2.
Right-back Phil Anderson: ““Mr Moody” was the best right back for a number of years in the PDFL. Part of title and cup-winning sides, but he never raised a smile when he won. Phil was very competitive, could pass as good as anyone and was one of the best tacklers in the game. Loved to put his foot in and great for banter with other players, often beating them before they got on the pitch.”
3.
Left-back Phil Groves: "Ortonians and Moulton Harrox legend. Mr Nice Guy is a great person who it seems has been around for ever and is Mr Consistent whether left or right back. Super fit and energetic (lapped me many a time in pre-season) and never seems to get beaten by an opponent when he plays. Won multiple titles including leagues, cups and county cups spanning 15 years and still playing!” Photo: Midlands

Centre-back Ben Lawrence: “An unbelievable defender who had it all. Ben was great in the air, quick and could pass a ball. Played for PSL when they won the league and county cup and was the heart of their side. A great person in the dressing room, always supporting others and leading the way, particulary after games in the bar.” Photo: Midlands
