Spalding United Women completed a quickfire derby double over Deeping Rangers, Whittlesey Athletic pushed leaders really hard
Spalding United completed a quickfire derby double over Deeping Rangers in Cambs Women’s Division One.
Leaders Spalding beat Deeping 7-0 at home earlier in March and followed up with a 4-1 win at the Haydon Whitham Stadium on Sunday. It’s now 10 straight Division One wins for Spalding and a four-point lead at the top for a team playing their first season of competitive football.

Deeping put up a good fight on their own ground though. A Yasmin Green goal had them level going into first-half added time before Spalding top scorer Constance Onyinah put her side in front. Onyinah scored twice more after the break to complete a hat-trick and make it 27 goals in just 16 appearances. Phoebe Richards-Reeves scored Spalding’s other goal.
Spalding are at bottom club Royston Town on Easter Sunday before they contest the Cambs League Cup Final against Division Two side Ely City at Newmarket Town on Thursday April 9. Then it’s a possible title decider at Godmanchester Rovers on Sunday, April 12. Godmanchester are the only side to beat Spalding so far this season.

In Cambs Division Two there was a fine 5-1 win for Stanground Cardea Sports Reserves at home to Saffron Walden. Shaima Ntambiye, Amelia McCourt, Georgie Fitzgibbon, Sophie Harold and Georgie Newman scored the goals.
And Whittlesey Athletic gave leaders Real Bedford a real run for their money before conceding twice in the final 20 minutes of a 2-1 defeat. Lauren Fort scored for Whittlesey.
Deeping Rangers Reserves won 3-1 at Stanground Cardea Sports’ Development team in Division Three. Millie Andrews and Becca Risebrow were among the Deeping scorers with Amelie Shevlane replying for the city side.
Spalding United are also going great guns in the Under 18 League. They maintained top spot with a 3-1 win at Newmarket Town.

Peterborough Sports moved joint top of the Under 15A Division despite dropping points for just the second time this season. The city side drew 1-1 with FC Kennett, but it was enough for them to catch long-time leaders ICA Sports and they have a game in hand.
Stanground Cardea Sports first team lost a big game at the bottom of East Midlands Division One South, 2-1 at Brackley Town. Olivia Smith scored for the city ladies who are now outside the relegation zone only on goal difference.
