It would have been some line-up available to Posh in the Championship last season, especially if the few good loan players had also been persuaded to stay.
Here’s an all-star Posh squad from players let go during that period with the only proviso being they are still active now. It’s fair to say the games would have been high-scoring!
Starting XI has been picked in a 3-4-3 formation.

9. IVAN TONEY
Sold to Brentford in a £10 million package after 94 Posh appearances (49 goals) between August, 2018 and August, 2020. His second season at London Road was arguably the best-ever from a Posh striker and would probably have led to a League One promotion if Covid hadn't arrived. Helped Brentford to promotion from the Championship in his first season at the club and played a big part in them staying up comfortably in the Premier League last season. Arsenal should sign him. He'd get 20 goals plus with better players around him. Photo: Joe Dent

10. DWIGHT GAYLE
Sold to Crystal Palace for £6million after 29 Posh appearances and 13 goals between December 2012 and June 2013. A brilliant technician and finisher who did his best to keep Posh up in the Championship. Posh cashed in soon after relegation was confirmed and he moved onto Newcastle for £10 million 3 years later. Gayle has always been prolific in the second tier and he that's where he should return as he won't get a game at cash-rich Newcastle any time soon. Photo: Alan Storer

11. BRITT ASSOMBALONGA
Sold to Nottingham Forest for £5.5million after 58 Posh appearances and 33 goals between July 2013 and August 2014. Assombalonga's goals carried Posh into the League One play-offs, but no further and after one superb season he was gone. Posh made a tidy profit of £4.4 million after just a year. Later moved to Middlesbrough for £15million and now scoring goals for Adana Demirspor in the Turkish top-flight. His club finished ninth last season with Assombalonga scoring 12 times. 12. MATT GODDEN
Sold to Coventry City for a reported £500k after 48 Posh appearances and 18 goals between June 2018 and August 2019. Godden wanted first-team football after a decent first season at Posh, but he was battling with Ivan Toney for a place up front and he was never winning that. Posh would probably take him back now though as he''s turned into an excellent Championship striker. Godden is the first of my 6 subs. Photo: Joe Dent
